(the condensed version)
Stevie Ray was born on Oct. 3rd, 1954 in Dallas, Texas. Inspired by his older brother Jimmie's guitar playing, Stevie picked up the guitar and by the age of seventeen had dropped out of high school to concentrate solely, on playing music. His most recognized band, Double Trouble was featured at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1982, where they caught the attention of both David Bowie and Jackson Browne. Bowie proceeded to ask Vaughan to play on his Let's Dance album, which he did and Browne offered free recording time at his downtown L.A. studio, in which Stevie Ray took. "Texas Flood" was released off of Epic in 1983 and became a huge hit. For the next 7 years Stevie Ray and Double Trouble recorded 5 studio albums. The album In Step would win Stevie Ray and Double Trouble a Grammy as would: the posthomously compiled release The Sky is Crying and the tracks Little Wing and D/FW (recorded with Jimmie), plus the album Family Style which was recorded with his brother Jimmie from which the track D/FW came.
He passed away in a helicopter crash outside of East Troy, WI. Aug. 27, 1990, that also took the lives of some of Eric Clapton's crew.
He is missed.
