Saturday's show highlighted the above mentioned blues artists.
Koko Taylor was born in Tennessee. In the late 1950s she began singing in Chicago blues clubs. She was spotted by Willie Dixon in 1962, which apparently lead to her first music contract.
Taylor is a staple on this show, performed at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland last year and has influenced musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Shemekia Copeland, Janis Joplin, Shannon Curfman, and Susan Tedeschi. She currently performs over 100 concerts a year, is signed with Alligator Records and resides in Chicago.
Dr.John is a New Orleans born boogie woogie pianist and probably best known for his song " Right Place, Wrong Time". He also did the jingle for Popeye's Fried Chicken too. He has played with the Rolling Stones, James Taylor, and Van Morrison.
In January 2008 Mac Rebennack, Dr. John, was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame. Later, in February, he performed at All-Star Saturday Night, part of the NBA All-Star Weekend hosted by New Orleans.
Curtis Salgado is a Portland-based musician. He was born on February 4, 1954 in Everett, Washington. He plays harmonica and fronts his own band as lead singer.Salgado was the inspiration behind John Belushi's creation of the Blues Brothers characters in the late 1970s. They became friends while Belushi was in Eugene filming Animal House. The Blues Brother's debut album Briefcase Full of Blues is dedicated to Salgado. For six years he performed with Robert Cray's band, and sang lead on Cray's debut album. Later in 1995 he spent a short time as the lead vocalist with the latin rock band Santana.
