Olympia Experimental Music Festival June 27-29
Written by Ricardo Wang on May 16, 2014
As experimental music genre director at KPSU, I’m excited to share an event that my program What’s This Called? is intimately involved with (and has been for some two decades):
The 20th Annual Olympia Experimental Music Festival
June 27-29, 2014 at The Northern 414 1/2 Legion in downtown Olympia WA.
One Portland act that will be playing is the combo or Thollem McDonas and Sara Lund (formerly of Unwound) as Impulsive Machinations on Saturday June 28th
And out of St. John’s comes J.d. Helwig on Friday June 27th
But everybody is also really excited about having the legendary composer/improvisor Elliott Sharp from New York City to play two sets on Friday June 27th, one solo and one with Joe Trump.
And returning to Olympia where he lived in the 1990s (including playing the very first festival 20 years hence), Mark Hosler of Negativland promises to scramble your jammers, eggs and all Saturday June 28th.
And nobody should miss Olympia’s surreal songstress KnotPineBox on Friday June 27th!
And Sunday June 29th has a matinee show featuring among other great acts Olympia transplants from Tacoma L.A. Lungs!
And also on Sunday June 29th, by popular demand, a return engagement from the Seattle one man force known as Overdose the Katatonic!
The festival is supported entirely by volunteerism, the low door prices, and their Indiegogo campaign
I promise that What’s This Called? on KPSU will be the program to keep abreast of developments in this exciting festival in the next coming weeks!
