Take ‘Couver – 2/2/16 – Diving In

Written by on February 2, 2016

Today, we went coastal. There’s a litany of ambient artists who either intentionally or accidentally conjure thoughts of water through their music. Some, one of whom we played on our show today, reside right here in the Pacific Northwest. Loscil, the pseudonym of Vancouver, Canada’s Scott Moran has produced no fewer than three albums with direct references to water. Today, we played a song off his album Submers which, obviously, is inspired by submarines. In fact, each song is named after a real ship. He also has the albums Endless Falls (inspired by rain) and Sea Island (rather self-explanatory). All are excellent examples of the potential for forceful, distinctive imagery within a genre whose distinctive hallmark is subtlety.

Loscil wasn’t the only brilliant artist we played, but I won’t spoil any surprises. It might be fun to play this video on mute while you listen…
