Review + Photos: Fenech Soler @ Doug Fir

Written by joe on May 19, 2017

With only a few shows left on their US run, UK’s electro-pop duo Fenech Soler stopped by Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge on May 18, 2017, for an intimate show far from home.

With some help from a childhood friend on bass, and their cousin on drums, brothers Ross and Ben Duffy brought an incredible show to Portland. With the natural intimacy of shows at the Doug Fir, the friendly and welcoming audience and Portland residents, maybe a little alcohol, and infectious music Fenech Soler turned the Doug Fir into a dance floor. Ben’s vocals sounded great, and the choreography, body movement, and audience interaction were all there, but what speaks for itself is the success of their music. With only using the Doug Fir’s house lights, Fenech Soler was able to create an intoxicating and hypnotizing environment with their huge sound and music production, causing everyone in the room to dance and jump along to their music.

Portland welcomed the humble UK group and made them feel at home, chanting and begging for an encore before the lights even completely dimmed.
