“Here Be Dragons” is one of the craziest albums I’ve ever listened to. The ambience and instrumentation of the Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is unlike any other group I’ve encountered. The album has an intensity that can only be described as black flame; it is . The percussion is not pounding or overwhelming it certainly drives a number of different and unique grooves throughout the record. The string section kills it with their combination of percussive and extremely emotional melodic lines. On top of that, the horns have a distinct place in the mix, sweeping over the ambience and cutting through the darkness.

My favorite part about this band is how it keeps me on edge the whole time I’m listening to it. Songs like “Sirocco” start out so creepy that I get shivers running up my spine. The ability of the ensemble to create an atmosphere is unparalleled and because of this, the album holds a special place in my heart.

When I listen to “Here Be Dragons” my mood slowly becomes enveloped in a kind of mist that completely breaks down anything I’m thinking about. While I listen, any emotion I’m feeling is amplified 10x and I have definitely experienced euphoria, anger, sadness, melancholy and tranquility while sitting in a dark room and letting everything go.

Nothing I’ve ever listened to can compare to this album.

I hope you all enjoy.
