Album Review: Devi 2000 Devotional

Devi 2000 is Chicago’s premier kirtan group who regularly performs at the Moksha Yoga Center.
**What is kirtan?

Also known as sankirtan, it is the call-and-response chanting popularized by the great saint Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu over 500 years ago. Today kirtan is accepted as one of the surest paths to enlightenment. The singing is accompanied by the ancient musical raga musical tradition with a rhythmic drumming style that transports the chanters to profound spiritual realms. Devi 2000 delivers a peaceful yet intensely heartfelt album with Devotional. The lyrics are smooth and fluid. The sounds coax listeners into a relaxing dream-like state. My favorite track, Ram, flows nicely, and summons a sense of longing/love in separation. Overall a very soothing album which is a good backdrop for the meditation of life.
