Description:

Be sure to check it out. It's a fantastic cause and it'll be an evening of great music. Here is more info on SUPPORTLAND:

We are a group of current and former restaurant workers that have come together to organize SUPPORTLAND, a benefit event for friend and co-worker, Chad Schild. We are writing to seek your participation in this event.

who is Chad Schild?
On June 25th, Chad was taken to the ER at Good Samaritan Hospital after an accumulation of unusual but seemingly routine health complaints. The following night doctors gave him a stunning diagnosis: Chad, age 35, has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, an uncommonly aggressive form of cancer. He is currently receiving as much chemotherapy as his body will tolerate in an attempt to force this disease into remission.

Like 46 million other Americans, Chad does not have health insurance. While the Oregon Health Plan and Medicare may cover some part of his medical expenses, he is unable to work and his monthly bills are piling up. This accumulating debt threatens to derail Chad’s life even if he does make a full recovery from his current condition. Meanwhile, Chad’s family is rearranging their lives to travel to Portland, stretching everybody’s budget to the limit.

Chad’s story is the ultimate “what if”. We know that currently, it’s not feasible for many employers to provide health insurance. But we can come together to support a member of our community during this tragedy.

what is SUPPORTLAND?
SUPPORTLAND is an event that aims to draw 300–500 people and raise over $10,000 to help Chad and his family with these mounting expenses. It will be a full day of entertainment and education—we’re lining up big name local bands, food and bar service, and through partnerships with area nonprofits we’ll engage participants in discussion about ways to promote healthcare reform. All proceeds will go to Chad and his family. The event is scheduled for Sunday, November 11 from 5:00 to 10:00 pm, at AudioCinema in Portland, OR.

We hope you will consider performing and becoming a part of this event. We have a team of musicians, connected food service professionals, a graphic designer and a public relations professional assembled and working on the project. Many businesses have stepped forward, but we need your help to reach our goal. By contributing your time and talent, you will help bring in the number of people we need to make SUPPORTLAND a success.
