| KPSU is a Student Fee funded organization, whose mission is to provide the Portland community with a high quality college radio source unlike any other available. KPSU strives to become nationally recognized as the leader in student managed college radio. The four corner stones of KPSU are student development, diverse listener satisfaction, community involvement, and student team management. This position is open to any currently enrolled Portland State University student carrying at least eight undergraduate or six graduate credits per term. | |
| Educational Value | The educational value for this position is .80. This position provides significant learning and growth opportunities in a co- curricular context that will expose the Production Director to challenges in leadership development and team building on campus and in the community. Through guidance and instruction received from the Student Development and Faculty Advisors, the Production Director will learn skills in budgeting, organization, time management, program development, communication, conflict resolution and critical thinking. The Production Director will also learn skills and gain knowledge in FCC rules and regulations, record company relations, and networking with professionals in the music industry and in the college radio environment. |
| Expectation of Time | The level of expected time for this position is 1.0, which averages 16-20 hours per week. The position works irregular and inconsistent hours that will be determined by the needs of the various constituencies served. A minimum of six-eight regularly scheduled office hours is expected and will be served at the discretion of the Production Director. This position is expected to schedule hours to maximize access for KPSU staff and DJ’s. Satisfactory performance of this position will be judged according to the extent to which the duties and responsibilities outlined below are fulfilled, regardless of the number of hours actually worked. |
| Level of Responsibility | This position will carry a .80 level of responsibility. The position impacts a significant number of students at Portland State University. The accountability is very high because the consequences of weak performance are great for students and the community who participate in this program. |

| Duties and Responsibilities |
* Train new announcers in equipment operations * Re-train DJs as needed - Hold office hours to assist volunteers to make spots for Underwriting, Public Service Announcements, promotional announcements and any other Station Related Spots. * Train and manage any volunteer production engineers to help produce specialty DJ shows. * Manage a group of production volunteers that will make professional sounding spots on a consistent basis. * Maintain high quality spots for a more professional broadcast * Organize a team of available DJs for service to other student groups' events and activities * Coordinate with the Technical Advisor to advise station on equipment needs and purchases - Work in conjunction with the Technical Director on any editing/production of prerecorded in-studios, interviews, etc. * Operate current KPSU digital editing system with any pertinent upgrades. * Keep updated with new production technique/styles beneficial to KPSU. * Work to improve KPSU’s remote broadcasting capabilities within the current KPSU situation. * Maintain all office equipment, i.e. phones, computers, fax machine, etc. * Attend weekly staff meetings * Meet with station manager to report progress of goals |
