The Clearing, a new album from Raleigh, NC's Bowerbirds drops next week. Carrying the tradition set in place by their first two LPs, The Clearing is a collection of lovingly crafted indie/folk/americana. This time around, Bowerbirds(AKA Phil Moore and Beth Tacular) recorded the album at April Base, the rural Wisconsin studio built by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, a friend and former bandmate of Phil's (Ticonderoga). The album is produced by Brian Joseph, who previously helmed those same boards for Bon Iver's recent self-titled LP. Despite the surface similarities, Bowerbirds is a separate beast with a distinct style and sound. Utilizing a core of guitar, accordion, two perfectly matched voices, and flavored with a conservative dash of drums bass and other studio additions, The Clearing is a record that just oozes a sense of comfort & togetherness in the midst of wreckage & ruin. Stitch The Hem is one choice jam from the new album. Recommended for fans of Iron & Wine, Local Natives, Beirut, Yellow Ostrich, Bright Moments, & Grizzly Bear.
