Yo. Anybody still like raw rap music? Dig it; All we have is some ill new Hiphop for your jeeps. And when it isn't new, we have some songs that we haven't played in a minute.
Thanks for checking the vibe.
-Young Nelkin
Yo. Neo-Afrobeat music for your summer enjoyment.
Yo. Very special edition of Liquid Beat featuring an interview and music from Giant Panda and Raashan Ahmad!
I was fortunate enough to catch up with these cats while they were in Portland as part of the Pushing Lasers tour (shout out to my people at the fix for bringing them to town!). I really wish we could have recorded the entire time we were hanging out at Old Standard Studio but I am certainly happy with what we did get down on tape. As always, thanks for checking for Liquid Beat. Hope you enjoy.
FYI: All interview beats by Thes One from assorted PUTS releases.
Yo. Another great Hiphop playlist for all my people who are still checking for new material and exclusives from the Hiphop nation. Thanks for checking for Liquid Beat and making the show part of your audio diet. I thought it came out kind of smooth so make sure to check the blend of Scienz of Life's Hood Stock with Braille's Evacuate.
Peace, Matt Nelkin
Yo. Nice continuous mix of some upbeat dance music. Included in here is a nice blend of one of Soul P's newer songs with Snoop's Drop It Like Its Hot. A lot of these songs are staples I play during the semi-early sets of our Rockbox Dance Party when the dancing really starts to get going. Hopefully you enjoy.
Peace, Mr. Nelkin
Yo. Upbeat continuous mix with the new and the old represented lovely (shout out to the new Giant Panda record as well as the homies Ohmega Watts and Braille wrecking it this time around). This music is just a bit too Hip-Hop for me and the crew's Rockbox dance party night at Holocene (unfortunately). However, that's why we have the radio as an additional outlet. Hope you enjoy.
Peace,
Mr. N
Yo. This show is all about Hip-Hop R&B. That is a term that I am using to define R&B that is either about Hip-hop, or produced by people who are normally considered to be Hip-Hop producers. We have contributions from the likes of Dilated Peoples, Lord Finesse, the late great J.Dilla, and the Boom-Bap king himself, DJ Premier. Matter fact, the whole last half hour is dedicated to R&B songs produced and remixed by Premier. Hopefully you can dig the vibe and concept my friends. Enjoy the listen.

Yo. Another Hip-Hop mix to kick start our summer here in the NW. Keep it real.

Yo. Every time I put together an R&B heavy show the week before, I have to back it up with a more traditional Hip-Hop show. Fortunately, there have been some good new releases lately which makes me much more excited about making that a reality. Plus, as an added bonus I've recently added some great underground classics to my collection and I was able to weave some of those into the mix. A good positive listen my friends. Thanks for checking for Liquid Beat. Hope you like it.

Yo. I liked this show so much I had to replay it! I originally put this show together last summer and since we are starting to get a few days of sunshine here and there I thought we should revisit the positive vibes.
This show continues the tradition of nontraditional shows I've put together in the last two years. Although the music would certainly not be considered straight up Hip-Hop, the musicians definitely take their cue from Hip-Hop sampling techniques and a love of soul and funk records. Regardless of what you call it, there are some serious grooves here that I hope you enjoy.
Yo. Sure shot Hip-Hop for my people who still dig the raw.
-Mr. N
Yo. I always love to come back to my radio show after me and the crew dj a Rockbox dance party. I love playing fun party joints. However, sometimes I worry that that style of music, and the corresponding aspect of my personality that is highlighted at that event will solely define what we do here at Liquid Beat. Thus, having the opportunity to play some cool out joints that I'm feeling is especially treasured after the late night style of RBX.
Yo. Rare I know but we have some new Hiphop for your ears that is actually good. Enjoy.
Yo. Proud of this one. Excellent new future soul for the quiet moments. Don't sleep.
-Mr. Nelkin
Yo. Along with every other self respecting Hip-Hop dj in the world, I put together a Dilla tribute show this week. I humbly present this mix as simply my spin on some of my favorite cuts the late great Jay Dee was involved in. This hour focuses on his more mellow, late nineties production work. Not too many rarities or surprises, just classic Dilla material. In all honesty, I really got cut short due to time constraints. I had a few other cuts planned to throw in at the end but I ran out of show.
Yo. in the words of Wordsayer, we're trying to get dumb, but remain intelligent. Dig it.
Back in effect! The first new show I've done in a minute is a somewhat best of 2007. I used to really look forward to these shows but since I really started digging on the science of the blend, they have become a bit of a headache. Instead of making the very best mix I can using my entire collection, these best-of shows limit the selection to only certain records. Oh well. It has been a minute. Thanks for rolling with me while I was in rerun mode. Here's to bigger and better. I'm slicker this year.

Yo. I really wasn't even trying to play a set of older late eighties early nineties hip-hop but it seems to have worked out that way. The show starts off with the only new song of the hour, a new cut from Y Society, "Dizzy". Not only does this song have an older feel to it but it is also fairly fast. Unfortunatley, for the most part, new hip-hop is so slow that in order to make a proper mix of faster tracks you really have to go back to the era highlighted in this show.
Yo. Thanks for checking for the Liquid Beat radio show. I was really trying to play mostly newer material this week. Then, at some point while I was putting together the playlist I slipped back into some early nineties joints. Oh well. Its a great mix of styles and eras. Plus, you get a few Liquid Beat exclusives with some blends of Mos Def and Libretto and Lifesavas songs. Hope you enjoy the listen.
Peace,
Matt Nelkin
