Jacob Perkins & The Nobody on Now I am Trendy Too

Start Time

05/21/2008 - 2:00pm

Description

Setting off from his old puddle-stomping grounds in Oregon, Jacob Perkins went to New Zealand in 2004 with little more than his guitar, his girlfriend's old boombox, an ancient pair of headphones and a pocket full of songs. Plugging the headphones into the microphone jack of the boombox and fitting together some percussion out of a jar of popcorn and a salvaged tambourine, he immediately recorded a dozen ditties over a found cassette of biblical readings. These lo-fi recordings now rest among hundreds of others in the growing archives, awaiting their multiple fates.

TEMPO NO TEMPO on Now I am Trendy Too

Start Time

06/18/2008 - 2:00pm

Description

"If too many of the dance rock bands obsess in creating slick, shiny songs, Tempo No Tempo separates itself with an ability to embrace noisier and darker sounds while keeping things driving and melodic. It’s a skill that reminds me of Washington, D.C.‘s now-defunct Q and Not U, a band that similarly mixed synths and guitars and threw in enough musical and lyrical curveballs to make you think while you were dancing."

THE PSEUDO DATES on Live Friday

Start Time

05/30/2008 - 5:00pm

Description

We write songs. That’s what we do. Songs that encapsulate the feeling you get when you think, "What am I supposed to do now?" We’re in our twenties, we haven’t got much figured out and it shows, but we love playing music. John plays the drums, Suzi plays the bass and sings, and Nathan plays guitar and sings. We have songs about walking home alone late at night, orange skies, tired footwear, feeling like a tv show that should be canceled, and purple umbrellas--among a vast array of other mundane/extraordinary things. We believe in the International Pop Underground.

THE QUARTER AFTER on Hour Long Hour

"What makes the Quarter After endearing is their willingness to fine-tune psychedelic pop's grand missteps as well as its sugar-cubed triumphs." - Harp Magazine

"With harmony-drenched pop, trippy rock jams, and countrified ditties, Changes Near transports to another time and place." - Under the Radar

"A perfectly transcendent piece of retro pop." - Popmatters.com

"Richly melodic and darkly experimental." - The Daily Vault
