First part of show:
Dedicated to summer fun tunes: Trex, Weird Al, Sparks, Flying Lizards, Link Wray, Clash, Gories, Feelies, Queen.
Second part of show:
Is Paul Dead or did he just have a face lift? Beatles
Last part of show:
Simply Amazing. Dedicated to Gyorgy Ligeti (RIP 6/12/06) featuring works on keyboard and mechanical pieces – like 100 metronomes all at once. Banned in Denmark, baby!
Doobie, Doobie, Doo…I really should of up’d the rock content for this show– I was hot, shaky and chlorinated going into the show and deaf, exhausted and chlorinated coming out. A few from pig destroyer and J. Priest and I coulda obliterated myself. I tried to close on a sweet/sad note but listeners ended up vexed to nightmare. I’ll tell you what makes me happy: A call-in request from Kurt for local rockers, King Black Acid and a call from Sasquatchatory Rape (an old kpsu dj who used to set the controls for the One Hour Pharmacy Show) requesting Slayer. Always happy to comply, I fulfilled both of these requests and will get to Laibach next show.
Me, Zombie. Squeeze my shoulder and I will shatter. Im a rough beast today with sensitive insides. What does that mean? Who knows. Just pass some small twigs my way so I may prop my eyelids open. Where was I? O yes. The DJ Booth. Played Sparks and Residents per Larry’s request – I have not yet located Severed Heads, they are harder to come by than you’d think – unless you are that freak from Idaho. You want gnarley? Also played Langley School Music Project, Badawi, Masada String Trio, Marilyn Monroe and my fantasy bar-be-q sing-a-long song: Country Roads by John Denver.
Holy Mollusk! Today on the waterfront I sacrificed the fitness of my vestibular system for the orbital angular sickness momentum of the Abdominal Snowman ride. Dizzy, baby. I love the RoseFest Fair for corn on a stick and carnies with collapsed nostrils. By the time I hit the booth I was so content to just look straight ahead and listen to some good music. Of all my many shows (5) I’ve enjoyed listening to this one the most. Larry called in with some requests but apparently people with sticky fingers have the same taste in music. The library’s been robbed. Never fear. I am resourceful and no call in request will go unplayed. You just have to catch it next show. This show features:Lydia Lunch, Marc Ribot, Tin hat Trio, Oranj Symphonette, Current 93, Patti Smith, Univers Zero (awesome) and much much more!
Whoa Nelly. Had so much fun recording this show I nearly made myself sick. Zach assisted with tune selection and dance moves. The booth was a habitable temperature. I had my first call-in request from a dude named Dave but was unable to accommodate him because a) Zach, instead of seeking requested tune, returned to dance party. b) there were only 10 minutes left in the show which I dedicated to playing the same Deep Purple song over and over – I swear, it was like the twilight zone – there was not even a cd in the player and the song kept broadcasting. Spooky. Well, call back man, I owe ya one.
Holy Moly! The thermostat busted and I was sweating all over the DJ Booth. No joke, I’m talking 90 degrees in the booth which I bitched about the whole show – I tried to do as little work as possible. Thankfully Josh was there to fetch music from the bins for me. He did a good job but the poor guy had to lay down on the floor in between trips from the music library to the booth (we’re talking 9ft of walking – each direction). It was pretty hot. Today Josh pointed out that after a weekend of steaks, strippers and sweltering heat - my head is a little clouded. Which is why I can’t remember all that I played. I do recall playing a local band: Rabbits, and Bruce Springsteen, Sun Ra, Neu, and some really great Japanese band whose name – you guessed it—
Well alright, second show down and I did all my duties. Made a pitch for the pledge drive, played my promos and PSAs, filled out the log book. Next time i’ll obey even better. Still looking for some ‘loaf. I played some Edwin Hawkins, Hawkwind, Mahalia, Billy Joel, Patto, Moody Blues, Neu, ‘Cube, wckr spgt, neutral milk ho, Gloria Deluxe, and They Might Be Giants. It was still a slop shop production. RusB who goes on before me is such a nice guy --I had fun chatting with him before the show. Ill be adding a formal playlist once I figure out what the heck I was up to.
Goodness, that was rather messy. But not half bad—maybe?—for a first show. I couldn’t figure out how to dial the IRP, I talked more than I intended and I did not fill out the log book. I will try to redeem myself next show. Some visitors at the station were misbehaving. I brought a slop shop of tunes which included: Secret Chiefs 3, Ike and Tina, Genesis, Tom Waits, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ernie Kovas, Bobbi Brown (sorry Tony, no Bel Biv Devoe) Monks, Fred Frith, King Tubby, Pig Destroyer, Raincoats. I will fill out a formal playlist after I relisten to the show and figure out what the heck I was up to. Have I always had a lisp? Next week’s guest DJ: Brother Jon – if I can convince him to stay up that late. I can’t wait ‘till they hook up the webcam ‘cause I am going to turn that booth into tribal solid gold bandstand grrrrrrrrind.
