So apparently I've been asleep and didn't realize Dr. Dog released an EP last month. [i] Wild Race,[/i] which the Philadelphian psychedelic-rock band released digitally on October 2nd, combines two iTunes exclusive bonus tracks from February's [i]Be The Void [/i] (Exit For Sale, What A Fool) with three unreleased tracks the band recorded while creating their seventh album earlier this year. Dr. Dog delivers another solid release with [i] Wild Race, [/i] and showcases their incredible songwriting abilities in a concise, 19 minute EP. I highly recommend checking out the opening track, Be The Void, at least. Dr. Dog's Scott McMicken is an incredibly gifted poet and lyricist, and his abilities seem to really flourish on the band's EP's. Bill Doss, co-founder of The Elephant 6 Recording Company and member of The Olivia Tremor Control and The Sunshine Fix died today, he was 43. An official posting on elephant6.com states: [quote]"I'm still in disbelief that our friend Bill Doss has passed away. He was a wonderful, creative soul and we'll never be the same." [/quote] From the [url=http://pitchfork.com/news/47328-bill-doss-of-olivia-tremor-control-has-died/] pitchfork obituary [/url] [i]"Doss, along with Jeff Mangum and Will Cullen Hart launched the Olivia Tremor Control in 1988 in Louisiana. Eventually, they moved to Athens, Georgia, and Mangum split with the band to pursue his work in Neutral Milk Hotel. The Olivia Tremor Control went on to release two widely loved full-length albums in the 1990s: 1996's Music From the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle and 1999's Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume One. Following Black Foliage, Doss turned his attention to the Sunshine Fix. Doss also helped launch Elephant 6, a collective of like-minded indie psych-pop revivalist acts that included the Apples in Stereo, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, Elf Power, and more." [/i] The Olivia Tremor Control recently played at the 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival and were planning on releasing a new album later this year.
